Top Tens on Master Giraffe

Posted by Seph on December 25th, 2008

You heard me. A great big merry christmas from the folk at Master Giraffe. With this post comes an apology for our lack of activity recently, and a promise that soon Master Giraffe will be back in full force.

Huzzah!

It’s been a  while since I’ve produced a top ten list, but I’m back, and again jumping into that dangerous category of music.

So why song outros? Everyone has a song in their collection that they remember because of the outro. Even if the song is completely shit up until that point, it doesn’t matter, as the outro will arrive and punch you in the face, make you scream ‘what the fuck’, force you to repetitively punch the table with your fist yelling ‘yes, yes, yes!’, or sometimes it will just make you tilt your head back and soak it all in.

Ok I’m over the wank now, hear are ten outros that I adore. Also, the list is in no particular order, as I found it pretty pointless ranking them. Maybe YOU can decide.

Pointing Is Power

DOWNLOAD: ZIP FILE | RAR FILE

It’s finally here, I remember telling Seph a month and a half ago “I’m going to make an album”, and now to suddenly have 12 songs in front of me is pretty damn cool.

So how much is it? Pfft who cares. I’ve put it up here available to download. Now here comes the part where I say… I couldn’t have done it without:

Damo from DX Interactive, that guy knows his shit and helped me with alot of stuff behind the scenes.

Korey Fernando, he has a great voice, get him to read you a bedtime story.

Ben Morling, he plays guitar like someone who has had lessons. Oh wait, he has had lessons.

Spencer Skey, he provided alot of inspiration for some songs on the album, he knows which ones.

Michael Stocks, well he taught me the violin, so I have to put him here otherwise he’ll have a cry.

Phillip, Sam and Mathew Rainbird, for having to put up with various phone calls, emails and continuous pushing for critique that was usually abuse because they would rather have been doing something else.

Luke Saxby, for sending me messages with lyrics from my songs. Yeah hardcore!

Chris Murphy, the dude lent me a bass.

and some things I could have done WITHOUT:

The guy who lives next door to my room. Dude, stop playing Eminem, snoop dogg or whatever it is.

My computer, enjoying crashing all the time. For example blowing up halfway through creating the album cover.

Having a chest infection and being forced in bed for about a week. Although it turned out ok as I had a totally different perspective on my songs.

Ok so that’s about it. I hope you enjoy listening to it. I really should get on with some university work now (and more Master Giraffe posts!). Although one of my projects does involve making a short film - and yes that will involve The Slinky Cat!

Ok so here is the final tracklisting:
1. This Is Bigger Than Carnavoce
2. My Pet Dog Eats Custard For Breakfast
3. The Romanian Train Robbery
4. There’s More To Life
5. Futuristic Pirate Robot
6. Pirate Robot Recharge
7. Round and Round
8. The Attack of the Goosen
9. Oh No He Didn’t (Oh Yes He Did!)
10. The Goochinator Spooky Cut (Ed Friedland)
11. The Fernando Torres Intermission Featuring Mr. Fernando
12. Sailing Into Venice With A Giraffe

But you can’t hide it from the Giraffe. No use denying; we know. Everybody has a selection of songs they would rather people didn’t know they listened to, but it’s time to embrace your shame. Here’s our top ten guilty pleasures.

Even though they just keep insulting their fans and predecessors by creating horrible direct-to-dvd sequels to their classics, there’s just no denying that Walt Disney Animation Studios (formerly Walt Disney Feature Animation) once knew how to make damn good films. Sure, the company’s slacked over the last couple of years and turned to the dark side, but their classics still remain and it’s always good to go back and remember just how awesome the company used to be. Of all their 47 official classics, I’ve managed to churn out a list featuring my personal top ten. Let’s see how I fared…

8. Dan Friel - Ghost Town

Dan Friel (one quarter of Parts & Labour), drives you through Ghost Town (literally, he picked me up in his car and everything, good bloke!) and feels like you’re in a video game called ‘Silent Hill: Beats Edition’. BUT, just pretend that Silent Hill is located in Scotland because you can hear bagpipes somewhere…

7. The Tallest Man on Earth - Shallow Grave

It wouldn’t be a top ten album list if it didn’t have an awesome folk singer/songwriter dude from Sweden who sounds like Bob Dylan and goes under the name ‘The Tallest Man On Earth’. His real name is Kristian Matsson, and yes before you ask he’s allowed to have two S’s in his last name because he’s from Sweden. Not that it’s the reason or anything to his position in this list…
