If you don’t know what Spaced is, it’s an english comedy series starring Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson. It’s fantastic and highly recommended if you’re a fan of Black Books, Big Train, The Office and many other british comedies.
As is the trend with British comedies, Americans just love to remake them. Maybe because they have too much money, but mostly because they have no ideas and don’t understand the British humour.
It doesn’t really bother me though as I’d never watch the American version anyway.
But it’s the case with Spaced that’s really pissed me off. Not only are the Americans doing a remake, but they’re also completely changing the style of the show and are apparently making it more similar to ‘Friends’. Yep. Friends. What has the world come to?
And that’s not all. Edgar Wright (British Spaced director), didn’t even know that his show was being remade until he received emails from disgusted fans, and as was the way with things back in 1998, Wright holds no format rights to the show, and even though Pegg and Stevenson would get paid for the arrangements of their original scripts, they don’t have the ability to call the whole thing off, which any fan would know they would have no hesitation in doing.

I agree. I don’t like this much at all. It surely is, as you say, ‘a disgrace’. So what, now it’s The Office, The IT Crowd AND Spaced. Erk. I love how Edgar Wright calls it ‘McSpaced’ though.
It’d be like me starting a Tasmanian based version of Master Giraffe. I bet you wouldn’t like that very much. OH DEAR!

Americans suck at pop-culture references, except perhaps for Seth McFarlane and of course Quentin Tarantino.

Upon hearing of another raping of british comedy, I really wasn’t all that surprised. After all, this move comes from a country that produced such side splitting classics as ‘two and a half men’ and ‘joey’.
Please america, keep your riproaring comedy to yourself, and leave our quality british humour alone.
