Empire isn’t a bad magazine, in fact their reviews of films are usually quite spot-on. But this recent publication of their ‘50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time’ has raised a few eyebrows on my behalf.

You can see the full the list of shows and their opinions why just here: http://www.empireonline.com/50greatesttv/

Otherwise, the simple list goes as follows:

50. Quantum Leap
49. Prison Break
48. Veronica Mars
47. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
46. Sex And The City
45. Farscape
44. Cracker
43. Star Trek (The Original Series)
42. Only Fools And Horses
41. Band Of Brothers
40. Life On Mars
39. Monty Python’s Flying Circus
38. Curb Your Enthusiasm
37. Star Trek: The Next Generation
36. Father Ted
35. Alias
34. Fraiser
33. CSI: Crime Scene Investigation
32. Babylon 5
31. Deadwood
30. Dexter
29. ER
28. Fawlty Towers
27. Six Feet Under
26. Red Dwarf
25. Futurama
24. Twin Peaks
23. The Office (UK Version)
22. The Shield
21. Angel
20. Blackadder
19. Scrubs
18. Arrested Development
17. South Park
16. Doctor Who
15. Heroes
14. Firefly
13. Battlestar Galactica
12. Family Guy
11. Seinfeld
10. Spaced
9. The X Files
8. The Wire
7. Friends
6. 24
5. Lost
4. The West Wing
3. The Sopranos
2. Buffy The Vampire Slayer
1. The Simpsons

So first off, this list is seriously lacking some British shows. ‘The Office’ and ‘Fawlty Towers’ not even getting into the top 20? What the hell is that all about.

Also, ‘24′ and ‘Lost’ at number 6 and 5 respectively? What the fuck is that all about? Sure, the shows aren’t THAT bad, but we’re talking about the ‘50 Greatest Shows of All Time’ here. Maybe if it was the ‘50 Greatest American Wank Off From Writers Who Have Ran Out Of Ideas So We’ll Just Blow Up Shit Or Throw Hobbits On An Island TV Shows of All Time’, then their positions may me more respected.

Ok, now ‘Seinfeld’ SHOULD NEVER be placed behind ‘Friends’.

The list is lacking some older television shows, especially ‘The Bill’ - the longest television show of all time! But unfortunately ‘CSI’, ‘Heroes’ and ‘Prison Break’ deserve to be in the list first.

Also, this list could have done with some children television shows. I’m sure many would agree with me that shows like ‘Gumby’, ‘Angry Beavers’ and ‘Transformers’ would grant a place too.

Oh well, massive fail on Empire’s behalf.  STICK TO FILMS.
